improves mother and child care in Afrika
The Mount Meru Foundation recently enabled an intensive two‑week hands‑on ultrasound training program for Dr. Jackline Nlula from Karatu, Tanzania. In her clinic, she focuses daily on maternal and child healthcare. For that reason, she wanted to further deepen her knowledge and skills in ultrasound.
The training took place in Zanzibar, including at the busy Abdul Mzee Hospital. There, she had the opportunity to gain extensive practical experience with abdominal ultrasounds and examinations in obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN).
The training was supervised by Regina, a senior sonographer and a trusted long‑term partner of Stichting Mount Meru.
During the program, Dr. Nlula independently performed various examinations under supervision. This not only provided additional technical knowledge but also increased her confidence in applying ultrasound in her daily practice.
Dr. Nlula responded with gratitude to this experience: “I learned different techniques for abdominal and OBs/GYN ultrasound and managed to scan many different cases. This increased my capacity in performing ultrasound.”
Stichting Mount Meru believes that sustainable improvement in healthcare begins with knowledge transfer and practical training. We are proud to have supported Dr. Nlula in her professional development and wish her great success in applying these valuable skills in Karatu.
