improves mother and child care in Afrika
The first concrete steps announced in our previous news update as part of the collaboration with Mnero Hospital have now been realized. The mobile ultrasound device, which was provided on loan by Stichting Mount Meru, is now being actively used during outreach activities in surrounding villages.
Through these outreach teams, pregnant women are being reached who would otherwise have limited access to care. In these villages in particular—where roads, especially during the rainy season, can be difficult to pass—the compact and lightweight device proves its added value. Teams can easily take it along, even when the final part of the journey must be completed on foot.

With the ultrasound device, examinations can be carried out on-site, contributing to the early detection of pregnancy complications. The device is also used within the hospital itself, where the Doppler function in particular provides additional diagnostic possibilities.
In addition to equipment, training remains an important focus within the project. Nurse Alexius is currently following a one-year training program in Dodoma, supported by the foundation, to further specialize in ultrasound. This investment contributes to the sustainable strengthening of local healthcare capacity.
At the same time, the hospital is facing staffing challenges, which has temporarily delayed the start of training for additional staff in ultrasound. Stichting Mount Meru remains closely involved in the progress and is committed to enabling the next steps within the project.
